Tabin Wildlife Reserve -Tabin was declared a wildlife reserve because of the large numbers of animal species inhabiting its forest, including several which are highly endangered. With a protected forest area of 120, 500 hectres, Tabin plays an important role as a dedicated ground for the breeding of endangered wildlife and protected mammals in Sabah.
The Kinabatangan River flows from the mountains of southwest Sabah into the Sulu Sea, east of Sandakan. It is the longest river in Sabah measuring 560 Kilometres.
The area is known to home one of Malaysia's most diverse lowland wildlife and habitats. Being easily accessible by boat along the river, expect to be spoiled by the astonishing variety of wildlife: The Orang Utan, Proboscis Monkey, Macaques, Maroon Langur, Borneon Pygmy Elephants, Clouded Leopards, Saltwater Crocodiles, Hornbills, and the list goes on.
BOOK YOUR TOUR EARLY (PEAK SEASON @ MARCH-AUGUST)
Day 1 - Pick up from Lahad Datu Airport MASWings BKI-LDU(MH 3010 @ 0700am)and transfer overland for 1 hour to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Afternoon, visit the Lipad mud Volcano, a mineral salt lick frequented by wildlife. At 0830pm, briefing with slide show. Night drive in search of nocturnal animals (weather permitting). (L/D)
Day 2 - 0630am early morning bird walk. After b'fast, trekking to visit Lipad's Waterfall. Lunch and free at leisure. Afternoon trekking to Segama Trail/Hornbill Trail. (B/L/D)
Day 3 - Check-out from Tabin. Depart for Kinabatangan Area, transfer overland. Check-in / Lunch and free at leisure to explore lodge surrounding till river cruise at 0400pm. Overnight at river lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 4 - 0600am river cruise. Jungle Trekking to "Merbau" tree and hill trekking of 2 hrs. River cruise at 0400pm. 0830pm Night Jungle Walk to search for nocturnal animals and insects. (B/L/D)
Day 5 - 0600am river cruise. Ox-Bow Bilit Trekking to Japanese WWII Ruins. 0300pm Gomantong Cave exploration or 0400pm river cruise to spot more wildlife along the river bank. 0800pm Night River Cruise to search for nocturnal wildlife. (B/L/D)
Day 6 - 700am Breakfast & 800am depart to Sepilok Orang-Utan Centre @ 1000am feeding time. Transfer to S'kan Airport or Hotel in Sandakan. (B/L)
